Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Therapy

Who Can Suffer From OCD?

OCD is a chronic condition that can begin in childhood, adolescence, or adulthood, affecting individuals of all genders and backgrounds. While the onset of OCD symptoms may be gradual or sudden, I am here to provide personalized OCD treatment that meets your unique symptoms and needs.

Symptoms of OCD

OCD can manifest in various ways. Typical symptoms include:
  • Obsessions: Intrusive, repetitive thoughts, images, or urges that are unwanted and cause anxiety.
  • Compulsions: Repetitive behaviors or mental acts performed to reduce anxiety or prevent a feared event.
  • Functional Impairment: Significant distress or disruption in daily life due to time-consuming rituals and avoidance behaviors.
Obsessive themes often include contamination, harm, perfectionism, loss of control, and forbidden thoughts.

Common OCD Symptoms and Fears

  • Contamination OCD: Individuals with contamination fears are often overwhelmed by a fear of germs, dirt, or illness. This can lead to excessive cleaning, hand washing, and avoidance of public places.
  • Checking OCD: A persistent fear of harm or making mistakes drives many with OCD to repeatedly check locks, appliances, or even their own actions. This checking behavior is a common way to mitigate anxiety and prevent perceived danger.
  • Ordering and Symmetry OCD: For some, OCD manifests as a need for perfect order or symmetry. Even slight deviations can trigger significant distress, leading to compulsive arranging, organizing, or aligning of objects.
  • Intrusive Thoughts: Unwanted, distressing thoughts or images—often of a violent, sexual, or blasphemous nature—can plague individuals with OCD. These intrusive thoughts create deep anxiety, even when the content is entirely contrary to the person's values.
  • Hoarding Behaviors: The fear of losing important items may lead to hoarding, where individuals accumulate possessions to an overwhelming degree. This behavior is driven by an intense anxiety about discarding items that might be needed later.
  • Scrupulosity: This type of OCD involves excessive concerns over moral or religious issues. Individuals may engage in repetitive behaviors or rituals to alleviate fears of sinning or moral wrongdoing.
  • Pure O (Purely Obsessional OCD):
  • This subtype of OCD characterized by distressing, intrusive thoughts and mental compulsions rather than visible, outward rituals.
